We're bringing another Exciting Trip

We’re back with another group trip to Bosnia and Herzegovina! This time around, we want to show you the beauty of this country on our new itinerary: The Winter Edition. This is one of our favorite countries in the world and the one that inspired us to run tours.

Enjoy the Adventure

Bosnia offers breathtaking nature, historic towns, and an incredible mix of cultures that is not commonly found around the world. However, it wouldn’t be possible to visit this beautiful country without learning about the Bosnian Genocide which lasted from 1992-1995.

Through this partnership, we have combined the best of fun and education. It is being led by Our World Too, an organisation dedicated to changing the way we perceive refugees. Together, we’ve created this Hybrid Tour to bring you the best of both worlds - the opportunity to immerse yourself in the history, culture and tourist highlights of Bosnia and Herzegovina while also visiting sites such as the Srebrenica Memorial Museum and learning more about the war from survivors – people who have LIVED through history.

If you’re looking to visit a lesser-known destination in Europe, travel in a completely different way, get to meet new people and immerse yourself in a new culture, then come and join us!

Bosnia: the Fall Edition

We’ve teamed up with independent humanitarian and travel blogger Go Global with Sibu to bring you a hybrid tour of Bosnia and Herzegovina. On this trip, you’ll have the opportunity to travel around the beautiful mountainous scenery of Bosnia and visit some of the country’s most famous landmarks.

However, it wouldn’t be possible to visit this beautiful country without learning about the Bosnian War which lasted from 1992-1995. A hybrid tour brings you the best of both worlds: truly immersing yourself in the history and culture of a destination while getting to enjoy the tourist highlights that it has to offer. Throughout this hybrid tour, you will have the opportunity to visit sites such as the Srebrenica Memorial Museum and learn more about the war from survivors. The widespread nationalist and fascist propaganda used throughout the war is a stark reminder for us all that there are devastating consequences when divisive rhetoric is used.

If you’re looking to visit a lesser-known destination in Europe, travel in a completely different way, get to meet new people and immerse yourself in a new culture, then come and join us from October 13th – 19th 2024, as we embark on a journey through Bosnia and Herzegovina!

We also offer an additional add-on if you would like to extend your trip and see more of this beautiful country.

Meet the team
Hira: Founder of Our World Too

Our World Too (OWT) is a platform dedicated to rehumanising the narrative surrounding refugees and displaced communities around the world. As part of our work, Our World Too also highlights the Bosnian Genocide, to create awareness about the tragic effects of fascism and ultra-nationalism, in addition to preserving and honouring the memories of victims and survivors.

Sibu: Founder of Go Global With Sibu

Sibu is on a journey to break stereotypes and to show people beautiful destinations that they would normally overlook. Travel is more than just being in a destination: it means immersing yourself in its history and culture, and that is what you’ll experience with her. Looking to get out of your comfort zone and make new friends while travelling? This is the chance to do so!

Demir Mahmutcehajic: Your local guide

Demir is a long-term human rights activist with a sense of duty for the land where he was born and bred. He uses his internationally collected knowledge to inspire visitors toward a joint struggle to prevent the evils that humans commit against other humans. For Demir, Bosnia and Herzegovina is more than just another country. It is the book that we can all read and learn from, but also one we can add our notes to.

Included / Excluded

To help you plan your trip, we have put together a list of what's included and what's not included in your tour package. This will give you a clear understanding of what to expect and help you make any necessary arrangements before your journey begins.

Itinerary

We have carefully planned out each day to give you the best possible experience. From exploring historic landmarks to tasting delicious local cuisine, each day is packed with adventure and excitement. Join us as we take you on a journey through some of the most fascinating destinations in the world.

We’ll begin bright and early with a guided tour of Bosnia’s beautiful capital city Sarajevo, a city steeped in medieval and modern history.

Our expert local guide will walk you through the cobblestone streets of the historic Baščaršija area of Sarajevo. You will also have the opportunity to hear about the siege of Sarajevo, the longest siege in modern history, from survivors.

We’ll be hosting lunch where you’ll be able to try burek, a Bosnian delicacy. Vegetarian options are available. In the evening, you can hoose to explore the city and its traditional handmade stalls and bakeries. This will be a great opportunity to purchase locally-made gifts and souvenirs to take home with you.

Meals: Lunch

On our second day, we’ll visit the memorial site of SrebrenicaPotocari, where 8,372 Muslim men and boys were murdered in July
1995 as a result of sustained fascist and ethnonational propaganda spread by Serb nationalists.

Despite frequently being overlooked by media outlets in their coverage of the invasion of Ukraine, the Srebrenica Genocide was the worst atrocity to take place on European soil since WW2.

The extensive use of propaganda during the war in Bosnia dehumanised and painted the Bosniak (Bosnian Muslim) population as an ‘incompatible other’. By visiting the memorial site you’re taking part in a necessary effort to learn the importance of combating hate and preserving the stories of survivors and victims for future generations.

Meals: Breakfast

Pack your warmest clothes and hop in the car! It’s time to start your winter adventure. Leave Sarajevo behind as you embark on a scenic drive to Jahorina.

Reach Jahorina and dive straight into the snowy fun! Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, hit the slopes for some skiing and snowboarding action. You can try tubing for an extra thrill. Don’t worry if you’re new to this – there are lessons available for beginners.

This day is all about enjoying the snow.

Meals: Breakfast

Get an early start and hit the road toward Bjelasnica-Igman. Keep your eyes peeled for stunning winter vistas along the way.

Arrive at Bjelasnica-Igman and discover more winter thrills. Whether it’s skiing, snowboarding, or just building snowmen, make the most of the snowy wonderland.

We’ll grab some lunch on the road before we embrace a unique piece of history as you visit the abandoned bobsled track on Trebevic. Imagine the excitement of the Winter Olympics as you take in panoramic views of Sarajevo from the top.

After having some time off to recharge, we’ll all gather together for our goodbye dinner for our last full day on this trip.

Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

Start your day by visiting the Tunnel of Hope. This historical site offers a glimpse into the past of Sarajevo.

After the tunnel, we’ll take a stroll through the city before stopping to eat baklava and drink Bosnian coffee one last time. The tour will officially end after this. Transport to airports is not included but can be arranged upon request. Should you wish to extend your stay in Bosnia, let us know and we can assist you with accommodation, transportation, and anything else you might require.

The immersive experience with Hybrid Tours, merging culture and education, broadened my understanding of historical events, giving me a more nuanced perspective of the complexities and contexts behind them. Interacting with knowledgeable guides, first-hand witnesses and historians brought stories to life, filling in gaps and answering questions that I never knew I had. The founders Hira and Sibu's passion and expertise were infectious, making each moment on the tour enlightening and memorable.

This was the most unique trip I have ever been on. It combined the very tough history of Bosnia and Herzegovina along with tourism: sharing the beautiful cities and natural areas in this country! I had some of the best food I’ve ever had in Europe, saw incredible nature and also experienced meeting so many amazing individuals that were survivors of the genocide. They shared their stories and I learned in a way I never had, not from museums but from the people that actually lived through the events themselves! This is a pioneer for a new type of tourism! Get on these trips before they start filling out like crazy!

This was not only my first trip to Bosnia, but it was also my first trip to Europe and it was beyond my expectations. Beginning with the history, to the road trip, to learning about the nation, it was a wonderful experience. The best part was that the guide Demir and The Hybrid Tours didn’t treat us like tourists - they treated us like friends throughout the whole trip. I’m excited to go back and visit Bosnia!

I had the opportunity to behold, explore and learn about Bosnia and Herzegovina through the perspective of its warm and charming locals. And.. Whoa. I never could’ve anticipated how exquisite, fascinating and deeply worthwhile of an experience it would be traveling through some of the nation’s past and present. To feast my eyes on otherworld beauty. To witness the fierce spirit of citizens still suffering from ongoing injustices. To drive through gorgeous mountains, soak in panoramic views of fairyland waterfalls and chill in city centers with a culture preserved from a time before. To walk in the spaces where the genocide took place in the 90s. To talk with lovely, down to earth and laid back locals who... remember.

The trip to Bosnia was rewarding in many ways; I learned a lot about the historical and cultural background of the city in a different era. It is a country that carries a lot of sorrows and scars, that has experienced tensions but is still filled with charm and beauty. I am talking about its unique landscapes and the brightness it has kept despite its past. Shared collective pain and joy are, in my opinion, what brings people together and creates connections. This is exactly what I experienced in Bosnia and so, I am deeply humbled and grateful for the testimonies of Demir Mahmutcehajic, Hasan Nuhanovic, and Nana Fata who have chosen to act with generosity in sharing their stories rather than with bitterness. I am also very grateful to have met people who were equally drawn to discovering Bosnia's past and with whom I could experience and share a range of emotions that came up during my visit. A heartfelt thank you to Hira, Sibu and Demir for organizing this wonderful trip. I highly recommend it.
